Woman Experiencing Menopause
Menopause in layman terminology is referred as change of life pattern in women. It is a natural occurrence around the age of 45 as a result of woman ovary ceases to produce estrogen and progesterone under the influence of which previously menstrual cycle was occurring now ceases to occur:
A woman is termed as having achieved onset of menopause around age of 45 years, when there has been absence of menstrual flow occurring for one year, although the menopausal symptoms appear much earlier. These symptoms are mentioned below:
Alterations in cyclical periods, some times short or long, light or heavy marked reduction or prolongation of duration between two cycles.
- Hot flushing and/or profuse sweating.
- Problems in getting sleep.
- Vaginal surface remaining dry.
- Changes in Moods feeling uneasiness.
- Problem in focus of attention.
- Presence of less hair on scalp and more facial hair.
Treatment of some of the symptoms is required under medical supervision so that the onset phase of menopause is tackled comfortably.
There are chances of suffering from heart disease, osteoporosis and breast cancer. The help of the doctor should be taken to ensure that preventive measures are adopted in diet and medication if any of these conditions are detected.
Heart Disease & Women:
There is a general belief that Heart Disease is a man’s problem, after menopause women are at risk to be affected by heart disease and it can be cause of disability and causes higher incidence of deaths in women after death and hence needs to be properly taken care of.
Osteoporosis in Women:
Osteoporosis results in weak bones and prone to get fractured easily. It is very common in old women and the incidence is twice higher than men of same age. Osteoporosis is symptom less disease, hence one learns with fracture of a bone. Bone mineral density test gives the true picture of state of osteoporosis and should be treated with Calcium and Vitamin D supplementation.
Breast Cancer in Women:
Breast cancer disease is confined to women with incidence of around 12 % and untreated can have fatal consequences.
