Taking Gum Disease Seriously

Gum diseases are often ignored, resulting in tooth decay and ultimately it’s loss, which can be prevented by timely treating the gum diseases. The occurrence of gum disease is related to neglecting oral hygiene and dietary inadequacies. People addicted to alcohol, poor nutrition or under steroid treatments for treatment of their HIV/AIDS disease or chemotherapy for treating cancer suffer from gum disorders also. One needs to do regular brushing and flossing so that sores do not develop hence it prevents inflammation.

Gingivitis is most common gums disease with which the gums look red, swollen with bleeding. It occurs because slow increase of plaque on the teeth. The treatment is based on proper dental hygiene with plaque removing by the dentist-in-office. If no treatment is done, gingivitis progresses to peri-odontitis, which is a severe infection of the gums making the tooth loosening and ultimately it’s loss.

Gum disease not a simple disease to be ignored, it has many other serious manifestations also. It has been proved beyond any doubt that there is a link between poor oral health and a heart disease. Bleeding gums can become a potential source, through which bacteria and virus can enter blood stream causing heart ailments. Pregnant women with gum disease have a high risk of delivering premature babies.

Bleeding gums indicate deficiency of Vitamin C, which can be rectified by taking fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C. One should eat hard fibrous foods like, celery stick, carrot which cause stimulation of gums.

Taking Help of foods:

Teeth loss can be protected by at the finish of the meal take foods, which do not support formation of cavities like:

  1. Aged cheese prevents cavities, when taken after meals.
  2. Non-Sugar gum chewing increases saliva secretion responsible in reduction of acids formed and food particles are moved away by saliva instead of remaining in the mouth.
  3. Brushing of teeth along with rinsing of mouth after meals is a physical activity preventing cavity formation.
