Snacks are food preparations, which are served, when it is not meal time i.e. around 11.0 A.M. or 4.00 P.M. time for taking Tea, Coffee or Cola drink. These are the times of short break at the place of work or when friends come to meet. It is customary to serve at such times tea, coffee or a cold drink depending on the personal choices along with light snack to avoid taking tea or coffee empty stomach.

The snacks can be of nuts, dry fruits, cookies etc. Nuts and dry fruits in small quantities are good for snack. The cookies served should be prepared at home from whole grain flour, small quantity of sugar and unsaturated oils like canola or olive oil, in place of hydrogenated oils. One is not sure of the ingredients used in the cookies purchased from the market.
It would be great idea if the snacks are replaced by plenty of green vegetable, carrots, radish, turnip, cucumber salads garnished with home made mint & green chilly sauce and lemon juice with spices to give their aroma and tinge in taste. Vegetable soups, tomato soup, mushroom soup provide ample of nutrition and can be good replacement for the cold drinks or coffees.
