Bowel Cancer

Bowel Cancer Incidence:

The incidence of bowl cancer is very high being ranked as the third largest cancer afflicted, although there is no relation to age, but most of the sufferers are of the above 60 years age group. It is also known as colo-rectal cancer. Large bowel is the last portion of digestive system, where wastes of the food reach, where the water contents are absorbed to convert it to solidified feces. The Large bowl is comprised ascending, transverse and descending colon leading to rectum and anus for bowel movement evacuation.

Bowel cancer & symptoms:

The formation of bowel cancer begins as a small non-malignant tissue of the colon wall growing into a polyp. After remaining non-malignant for quite some time, these polyps like structures become malignant. Now they have uncontrolled growth in them. If one feels any trouble of the bowls, one should get it investigated for ruling out the presence of cancer. If cancer is detected, the treatment should be started so that it does not spread to other parts of body.

  • Traces of blood in the feces, which gets mixed in feces or look like spots on the surface, it can be visible on toilet paper. When one is suspecting, one must be vigilant about such initial signs, do not rush for flushing without having a look at the feces.
  • If there is without an interruption changing of bowel routine lasting many weeks with special reference to toilet going very frequently or presence of diarrhea.
  • Weight loss taking place not explained by any cause resulting in loss of appetite also.
  • Feeling tired or feeling breathlessness, without any reason. There blood loss through bowls causing anemia.
  • Presence of pain, or a lump or swelling in abdominal region.

The above symptoms present, do not necessarily mean presence of bowel cancer. If bowel cancer is detected early there are good chances of treating it successfully.
