It is primarily used for curing erectile dysfunction due to all causes including Diabetes mellitus. Besides erectile dysfunction, it is also used in Pulmonary hypertension (PAH). Moving on to the side effects, this drug can cause headache, flushing, nasal congestion and stomach upset. To some people it can cause blurred vision and bluish vision (cyanopsia). Few users even complained of photophobia and blurriness and loss of peripheral vision. Sildenafil has been shown to have links with non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, a condition of the eye. Post marketing study of this drug has shown priapism, severe hypotension and heart attack among the users. Fatal side effects can occur if it is used with nitrates which are used by patients with heart disease. This drug can also cause ventricular arrythmias, stroke, sudden hearing loss and increased intraocular pressure.
